The Age of Reason, the animal and spiritual side of nature and humans

Hi

To understand the nature of self, the universe, and the inner meaning of religion, we shall discuss more about " Why are we here? Is there a God? What happens after death?  Are there higher levels of being? "

Thomas Paine believed in one God, apparently as a result of pursuing fellow-creatures happiness. Paine however questioned  revelation that can only be verified by the individual receivers of the message and is therefore weak evidence for God's existence. He also pointed out that the Christian revelations appear to have altered over time to adjust for changing political circumstances. The Age of Reason challenged institutionalized religion and the legitimacy of the Bible.

George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff believed that humans have the animal and spiritual side of nature  and humans may  transcend to a higher state of consciousness and achieve full human potential. He pointed  out the Fourth Way of Self-Transformation that  the wisdom of the East and the energy of the West should be harnessed and used harmoniously, to avoid the world destroy itself.

Men created illusion of self-determination, of freedom, of wakefulness due to the existence in man of many contradictions; contradictions of opinions, feelings, sympathies, words, and actions.  Gurdjieff wrote that We are not free.

Bill

Looking for true and fabulous Theology, Activists like Thomas Paine (1737-1809) presented common deistic arguments; and argues for the existence of a creator-God, and the debate continues beyond The Age of Reason.  Thomas Paine lays out his personal belief:
"I believe in one God, and no more; and I hope for happiness beyond this life.
I believe in the equality of man; and I believe that religious duties consist in doing justice, loving mercy, and endeavouring to make our fellow-creatures happy.
I do not mean by this declaration to condemn those who believe otherwise; they have the same right to their belief as I have to mine. But it is necessary to the happiness of man that he be mentally faithful to himself. Infidelity does not consist in believing, or in disbelieving; it consists in professing to believe what he does not believe.[16]"

George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff (1866?-1949) was born in Russian Armenia, probably in 1866, and died in 1949, in Paris, whence he had led his followers to escape the Russian Revolution. He spent decades traveling Asia Minor and the far East seeking real answers to real questions. Why are we here? Is there a God? What happens after death? Are there higher levels of being?
Gurdjieff turned to the Asian civilisation for answers. He eventually gave new life and practical form to ancient teachings of both East and West. For example, the Socratic and Platonic emphasis on "the examined life" recurs in Gurdjieff's teaching as the practice of self-observation. His teachings about self-discipline and restraint reflect Stoic teachings. The Hindu and Buddhist notion of attachment recurs in Gurdjieff's teaching as the concept of identification. His descriptions of the "three being-foods" matches that of Ayurveda, and his statement that "time is breath" echoes jyotish, the Vedic system of astrology. Similarly, his cosmology can be "read" against ancient and esoteric sources, respectively Neoplatonic and in such sources as Robert Fludd's treatment of macrocosmic musical structures.

Gurdjieff drew a sharp distinction between knowledge, in the ordinary sense, and understanding. Real understanding, he maintained, requires a significant degree of inner being. A computer cannot process certain things without enough RAM; a man cannot understand certain ideas fully unless he has enough sheer Being.

Gurdjieff bluntly informs us, Under the usual conditions, we cannot know ourselves, for the simple reason that we are asleep.  Man is a machine, Gurdjieff tells us, with characteristic unsentimentality, an automaton of reactions and reactions to the reactions. We imagine ourselves building, creating, moving alertly through the world: we are kidding ourselves.
We are, says Gurdjieff, lost in waking dreams and rigorously tracked neurotic fixations; when we think we are "doing" we are simply caught up in complex, fantasy- tinged reacting. We are asleep. We are not free.

There are three traditional paths to awakening. The first Way is the way of the fakir, demanding physical control and excruciating asceticism; the second is the Way of the monk: the way of devotion, faith, the heart; the third is the Way of the yogi: the path of knowledge, of mind. Gurdjieff's own Fourth Way combines elements of the first three, and is further distinct in that it calls its practitioners to work within themselves while functioning in the ordinary, workaday world. It requires no monastic withdrawal from life - ordinary life is its resource, its basic material. "I wish to create," Gurdjieff wrote, "conditions in which a man would be continuously reminded of the sense and aim of his existence by an unavoidable friction between his conscience and the automatic manifestations of his nature."

We are born, according to Gurdjieff, with an Essence, our essential self, a particularity that is determined by heredity and "planetary influences", but which is also full of promise. This promise is largely shackled by the encroachment of personality. Our habitual identification with learned personality traps us in a false self. Or rather, we're caught up in a series of false selves, scores of "parasitic identities", bullying little "I's", each "I" with its own agenda, each of the false personality.
We snuggle into our slumber under the blanket of our cherished, socially-reinforced illusions. The illusion of self-determination, of freedom, of wakefulness, is maintained thanks partly to the presence of what Gurdjieff calls buffers - "They are created," Gurdjieff avers, "not by nature, but by man himself, although involuntarily. The cause of their appearance is the existence in man of many contradictions; contradictions of opinions, feelings, sympathies, words, and actions. If a man throughout the whole of his life were to feel all the contradictions that are within him, he could not live and act as calmly as he lives and acts now. He would have constant friction, constant unrest...If a man were to feel all these contradictions he would feel what he really is.

Giving further definition to Gurdjieff's cosmology is the Law of Three and the Law of Seven. The Law of Three breaks down all events into three forces: active, passive, and neutralizing. The Law of Seven provides a systematization of the course of movements of force through a series of events.

香港的社会服务队伍其实从来就没有停止过。助學行動至今不斷。朋友指出香港有不少的朋友及机构成立類似的助学活动;

Bill

泛亚世贸中心A300.00米。

There are Alien Races in the Milky Way

Dear All

There are Alien Races in the Milky Way

Before we explore some  further questions about God , belief and religions;  we better note that Scientists have been searching for life in the Universe. Scientists believe that we have Extraterrestrial life on Earth and Humanity is on the verge of discovering alien life.
The Milky Way may bear 100 million life-giving planets.  There are some 100 million other places in the Milky Way galaxy that could support complex life. “It seems highly unlikely that we are alone,” say the researchers. “We are likely so far away from life at our level of complexity that a meeting with such alien forms might be improbable for the foreseeable future.”

Bill

Many generations of thinkers, both religious and scientific, have been led astray by anthropic assumptions, while others were simply led astray by ignorance. In the absence of dogma and data, history tells us that it's prudent to be guided by the notion that we are not special, which is generally known as the Copernican principle, named for the Polish astronomer Nicholas Copernicus who, in the mid 1500s, put the Sun back in the middle of our solar system where it belongs. The sixteenth century Italian monk Giordano Bruno suggested publicly that an infinite universe was filled with planets that harbor life. For these thoughts he was burned upside down and naked at the stake.
Now the time comes, "We know where to look. We know how to look," Stofan added , "In most cases we have the technology, and we're on a path to implementing it. " [5 Bold Claims of Alien Life].
Hunting for evidence of alien life is a much trickier proposition than identifying potentially habitable environments.  For example, the agency's next Mars rover, scheduled to launch in 2020, will search for signs of past life and cache samples for a possible return to Earth for analysis. NASA also aims to land astronauts on Mars in the 2030s — a step Stofan regards as key to the search for Mars life.

Science is more about  the conditions to support life rather than to address the Origin of life questions.  The scientists surveyed more than 1,000 planets on the conditions to harbour complex life  and consider that “It seems highly unlikely that we are alone".
The  Milky Way is so vast that planets with high BCI values are very far apart, according to the scientists.  "We are likely so far away from life at our level of complexity that a meeting with such alien forms might be improbable for the foreseeable future.”

Extraterrestrial life [n 1] is life that does not originate from Earth.  The Scientists consider that 10 billions Milky Way may have lives.

Discovered using super-powerful magnets to capture minute pieces of debris floating in space, the “bull-shaped” particle is a “complete living entity”.  Professor Milton Wainwright the University of Buckingham Centre for Astrobiology claims it proves life exists outside Earth.

' According to the statistics and the indications we have, a good share of the planets in the habitable zone will be solid planets where there might be liquid water and where life could exist,' said Steffen Kjaer Jacobsen, from the University of Copenhagen.

From the American space agency Nasa's Kepler space telescope, which has confirmed the existence of around 1,000 planets orbiting stars in the Milky Way.  It has also identified an estimated 3,000 other candidate worlds.

Mobile-friendly - Mar 18, 2015 - 'Billions of stars' in the Milky Way may have planets that contain alien life: Scientists say our galaxy is ...

Exoplanets around main sequence stars are being discovered in large numbers.

An increasing number of extrasolar planet discoveries are being made with 2047 planets in 1296 planetary systems known. Rare Earth proponents argue life cannot arise outside Sun-like systems. However, some exobiologists have suggested that stars outside this range may give rise to life under the right circumstances;
Though planets the size of Earth are difficult to detect and classify, scientists now conclude that rocky planets are common around Sun-like stars.[52] The Earth Similarity Index (ESI) of mass, radius and temperature provides a means of measurement, but falls short of the full Rare Earth criteria.[53][54]

See also: Estimated frequency of Earth-like planets

The Milky Way may bear 100 million life-giving planets.  There are some 100 million other places in the Milky Way galaxy that could support complex life,

The scientists surveyed more than 1,000 planets and study the planet density, temperature, substrate (liquid, solid or gas), chemistry, distance from its central star and age. They developed and computed the Biological Complexity Index (BCI). The BCI calculation revealed that 1 to 2 percent of the planets showed a BCI rating higher than Europa.   With about 10 billion stars in the Milky Way galaxy, the BCI yields 100 million plausible planets.
Despite the large number of planets that could harbor complex life, the Milky Way is so vast that planets with high BCI values are very far apart, according to the scientists , the distance from Earth to Gliese 581 is about 20 light years.
“It seems highly unlikely that we are alone,” say the researchers. “We are likely so far away from life at our level of complexity that a meeting with such alien forms might be improbable for the foreseeable future.”

There are some good aliens, and some bad guys.

Questioning the universe, Stephen Hawking- THERE IS NO GOD

Is Heaven just a fairytale ? The science-religion debate has been going on since science was born.  Unlike many religions, science has no final authority.

Despite the claims by Theologians that the existence of a creator is by definition outside science’s domain, Some Physicists said that  The universe arose “from nothing” courtesy of the force of gravity, and the laws of nature are an accident of the particular slice of universe we happen to inhabit.  It is possible to answer these questions purely within the realm of science, and without invoking any divine beings.

Stephen Hawking was in the opinion that Science has a better explanation than the divine  creator. Hawking wrote that if scientists could find the most fundamental laws of nature "then we should know the mind of God".

Best  Regards
Bill

Stephen Hawking wrote in his books "The Universe in a Nutshell"  , "A Brief History of Time" 1988 ,   "A Briefer History of Time" 2005 , and "The Grand Design" 2010
which have brought an appreciation of theoretical physics to millions. Stephen Hawking was in the opinion that Science has a better explanation than the divine  creator and  tried to  explain that we do not need God to create the universe.

Stephen Hawking THERE IS NO GOD !! Amazing Documentary - YouTube
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vj0NL2r6cnU

Hawking said that the late Pope John Paul II once told scientists they should not study the beginning of the universe because it was the work of God. Hawking considered how the matter of this universe come from. Something has to happen to cause the universe to occur. Albert Einstein - mass and energy are two sides of the same coin.  E= mc2.  He considered the energy came from the Big Bang which created vast energy and negative energy.  The negative energy  was needed to create the universe.  The positive and the negative add up to zero in the universe.   He said that Time itself began at the Big Bang.  A black hole is a star so massive that even light cannot escape its gravity. Just like a clock comes closer to the black hole, it begins to become slower and slower.

Hawking said: "Before we understand science, it is natural to believe that God created the universe. But now science offers a more convincing explanation."

He said "Many Kinds of Universes, and None Require God." .  "It is not necessary,” Hawking and Mlodinow write, “to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the universe going.”

Is God always here  ?

Stanford University theoretical physicist Leonard Susskind, whose 2006 book The Cosmic Landscape also questioned the need for a creator in the account of creation, agrees. It had been noted that the conditions of the Universe are very fine tuned, allowing life.  String theory was then created, but allowed too many solutions. Then Susskind hypothesized that there are multiverses where there are occasional universes where life is indeed possible. He calls this multiverse the "landscape".[1]
“Not all physicists think the quest for a complete theory is over,” he says. “I don’t think we are anywhere near it.” Whether or not there is a God, his or her handiwork is certainly not easy to understand.

Is there God ? EINSTEIN'S APPROACH TO GOD

Shall we explore the deepest question in the Universe - Is there God , if yes, what does He do ?

Einstein explained in an interview published in 1930 in G. S. Viereck's book,
“Your question [about God] is the most difficult in the world. It is not a question I
can answer simply with yes or no. I am not an atheist. I do not know if I can define
myself as a pantheist. The problem involved is too vast for our limited minds. The
human mind, no matter how highly trained, cannot grasp the universe.
May I reply with a parable. We are in the position of a little child, entering a huge
library whose walls are covered to the ceiling with books in many different
languages. The child knows that someone must have written those books. He does
not know who or how. He does not understand the languages in which they are
written.  That, it  seems to me, is the attitude of the human mind, even the greatest and most cultured, toward God. We see a universe marvelously ordered, obeying certain laws, but we understand the laws only dimly. "

In a book entitled  "Ideas and Opinions "
which was published in 1954 - and  which is available free of charge on Google - Einstein presents his concept of a  “cosmic religion”. It is based on the awareness of the "miraculous order which manifests itself in all of nature as well as in the world of ideas." In an interview, Einstein stated:
"God is a mystery. But a comprehensible mystery. I have nothing but awe when I
observe the laws of nature. [And bear in mind] there are no laws without a
lawgiver... “ And he added with a smile "some centuries ago, I would have been
burned or hanged for saying this, but I would have been in good company."

“ If there is something in me which can be called religious, it is the unbounded
admiration for the structure of the universe so far as our science can reveal it.”
Einstein rejected the label ‘atheist’. He stated:
"I have often said that in my opinion the idea of a personal God is a childlike one.
You may call me an agnostic, but I do not share the crusading spirit of the atheist
whose fervor is mostly due to a painful act of liberation from the fetters of religious
indoctrination received in his youth. I prefer an attitude of humility at par with the
weakness of our intellectual understanding of nature and of our own being."

In a 1930  New York Times article, Einstein distinguished three human
impulses which develop religious belief: fear, social morality, and a cosmic
religious feeling. A primitive understanding of causality causes fear, and the
fearful invent supernatural beings analogous to themselves. The desire for love and
support creates a social and moral need for a supreme being; both these styles have
an anthropomorphic concept of God.

It is impossible to know how life on Earth really started, but that doesn’t stop scientists from trying to find out how it could have started.

Cancer Treatments at 2015

There are numerous discussions on treatments of cancer and tumour ,  the effectiveness and survival ratings,  chemo therapy treatments,  and other  alternative therapy  like the practice of Natural Healing,  are practical topics amongst us worldwide.  Despite being a layman in medicine,  we should have a duty to know the whole  truth and find the right doctor  as this is a matter of  life and death.

Some  suggests that  Study shows Chemo is only 2.1% effective toward 5 year survival  and declined  against Electrotherapy and chemotherapy on cancer.

Professor  PC Leung considered that  Exercises involving stretching and control breathing are among the most important measures for the maintenance of health and natural healing, according to the ancient Chinese Classic on Medicine.

As  to Dr. Jeremy Henson, Cancer is a leading cause of death in Australia accounting for 3 in every 10 deaths and claiming the lives of more Australian children than any other disease. Cancer cells have activated an immortality mechanism that allows them, and the tumour, to keep growing forever. Normal cells don't have these immortality mechanisms; they simply get old.  The current treatments do not work for many cancer patients and have long lasting side-effects in survivors. Jeremy is "Finding a way of doing in cancer patients that could provide a low-side-effect therapy to treat the disease.”

It is also said that Cancer is a disease of the immune system and inappropriate treatments and unhealthy way of living may weaken immunity.

Bill
[1]  Ping-Chung Leung, Natural Healing in Chinese Medicine:  Qi Gong and Tai Chi, Institute of Chinese Medicine, The  Chinese University of Hong Kong, 2011
The basic question is “Should I practice Qi Gong or Tai Chi?”[1]
The popularity is clear. The popularity is historically and culturally linked. The practice requires little cost. The practice can be easily verified at different levels of personal practice. But if one considers that scientific proof is of paramount importance, what we are clear today, remains scanty, non-specific, and partial.
Meditation is another essential component in the pursuit of health.
Natural Healing is strongly linked to the philosophy of Taoism. Natural Healing for Traditional Chinese Medicine compiles the three components of physical, physiological and psychosocial harmony which are all interlinked. The ancient healers, through so many years of practice, have worked out varieties of means to help boostering the state of harmony.
Indeed, Natural Healing in Chinese Medicine exists as a complete system with a strong philosophical basis, involves careful professional, i.e. medical conceptualization, defines complicated methodologies of practice, and in recent years, commands organized social networks for its promotion (Wang, 2007; Lic, 2003).

Respiration is controlled which include extra-long inspiration or extra-long expiration. Abdominal or diaphragmatic breathing and the pelvic diaphragm and anal sphincters are also squeezed at will.  Intentional controlled breathing  is making use of the somatic nervous activity to initiate stimulation on the autonomic nervous system, which has wide connections with the internal organs and therefore opens up new channels of communication with the internal organs under rational intension that the practice pushes the qi through the internal organs to help building a state of physiological harmony.
In 2004, the Beijing Sport University conducted a clinical study on the effects of Qi Gong on the physical ability of a group of people aged from 50 to 70. This is a clear indication that the ability of the heart among this group of middle age and older age people to adapt to higher demand of physical activities improved with the Qi Gong. Respiratory function also improved after the period of training (Tsang and Chow, 2005).
Like Qi Gong, Tai Chi is believed to have preventive function against infection and other pathological changes. Investigating immunology related changes should throw light on the assumption. The interleukins (IL’s) are a group of cytokines created by mononuclear cells regulating cellular activities. IL2 is probably the most important member which controls the survival of T cells, NK cells and B cells, and is actively involved in anti-cancer activities.
As to Dr. Jeremy Henson, Cancer is a leading cause of death in Australia, accounting for 3 in every 10 deaths and claiming the lives of more Australian children than any other disease. Cancer cells have activated an immortality mechanism that allows them ,and the tumour, to keep growing forever. Normal cells don't have these immortality mechanisms; they simply get old.  The current treatments do not work for many cancer patients and have long lasting side-effects in survivors. Jeremy is "Finding a way of doing in cancer patients that could provide a low-side-effect therapy to treat the disease.”  [2]At the heart of Jeremy’s field of interest is alternative lengthening of telomeres (ALT), one of two mechanisms which cancers rely on to keep growing indefinitely. These mechanisms are active in cancer cells but not in normal human cells, so inhibiting them can kill cancer cells without harming the regular ones. Ultimately, he would like a blood test for cancer that he’s developed to become a clinical test, which could benefit many patients, including those with lung cancer.
 Electrotherapy and chemotherapy
Case: Here’s what I did. I had surgery to remove the tumour first.
I did not have chemo or radiation before the surgery.
During the surgery the doctor discovered that the cancer had spread to my lymphnodes (Stage 3). After surgery the doctors recommended 9-12 months of chemotherapy.
I declined, which was not a popular decision. Most of my family thought I was crazy and it took several years and multiple cancer free reports before they came around.
I believe that in some cases surgery makes sense; to get as much cancer out as possible and give your body a jump start in dealing with whatever cancerous cells are left.
In other cases surgery can cause the cancer to spread. It’s a bit of a gamble…
Knowing what I know now, I probably would have postponed surgery,
pursued hardcore natural methods first and had the doctors monitor my progress closely.
If you’ve read my posts on chemotherapy then you know that my reasons to reject chemotherapy were:
-It causes permanent damage throughout the body
-It destroys your immune system, which is the most critical component in getting well.
-It is a highly toxic carcinogen that can cause secondary cancers throughout the body.
-The reports of its effectiveness are grossly exaggerated.
A groundbreaking 14 year study was published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology in December 2004 called “The Contribution of Cytotoxic Chemotherapy to 5-year Survival in Adult Malignancies”.
One very powerful approach is converting to the Raw Vegan Diet to alkalize, detox, and flood your body with the nutrients it needs to heal itself.
This consists of:
–Juicing
–Fasting
–Giant Salads
–Green Smoothies (giant salad blended up in a Vita-Mix)
–Coconut Berry Smoothies
